Dave has given my hatred for Topps Sterling a major boost with this amazing detail of the Mattingly cards. I love his fucking post, I want you to read it. Please, I beg you, see why Sterling gives me nightmares.

Most Colors On A Patch Goes To...
So, a few weeks ago, I posted about the idiots who contstantly post about their 6 and 7 color patch cards, which are actually just two to three patches of 2-3 colors each. Well, someone on blowout actually found a card that falls under the true 6-7 color variety. Take a look at these!
Holy... fucking... shit. BALLGAME.

Where Does It End?!?
Well, you know that claim that says 80% of all secondary market memorabilia is fake? I am starting to buy in. I used to think that if an item is up for auction with a place like heritage and other top houses, it should be researched beyond comprehension. Most of the time, the items come with massive provenance, but that doesn’t always mean they are real.
I started looking around gameuseduniverse.com lately because I am always interested in parts of the hobby I know nothing about. What I found there was shocking, disheartening, and very educational to say the least. On multiple occasions, people have posted threads on the site showing how a certain item cannot, under any circumstances, be real - despite any history described in the auction.
Recently, a Mastro Michael Jordan item was proven to be not real, and drew the attention of the national media. What they missed were two items, described in this thread, that should have had the same kind of coverage. There are other items listed, but I took these two as the most important due to the players and the claims of the auction.
The first was supposed to be a game used helmet worn by Joe Namath in SBIII. The auction lists miles of history and even has a quote from the house's president about how this is the one item that should be tops on everyone's list. The problem is, that one of the members on the forum knew more about football helmets than any single other person who worked for the house.
According to photographs from the auction, the Namath helmet was relatively unrestored, but the major "gaff" was that there was only one drill hole below the earpiece. From other photos in the thread, Namath's helmet had two drill holes, done haphazardly to replace the two bar facemask with a three bar. When it was removed, the drill holes remained throughout the season. As you can see from the pictures, the helmets are similar, but not the same. Wow.
Secondly, there was an easier gaff spotted in a Unitas gamer, that brought 50,000+ on three occasions at auction. The issue? The helmet was made by a manufacturer that Unitas never wore in a game. Fucking crazy.
Of course all the claims were immediately refuted by the houses in pretty conspicuous fashions. The person on the forums said that if the claims by the auctions were true, it would be pretty crazy to think that they wouldn’t show up in any of the photos and extra photos provided to him personally.
So, if Heritage, Mastro and all the other houses can make mistakes like this, how many mistakes are there with Upper Deck, DLP, and *gasp* Topps? Im guessing quite a few.
If you havent checked out gameuseduniverse.com, do yourself a favor and check it out. Even if you don’t care about gamers, its still cool to see the collections on the site.

Patch Faking Reaches EPIC Proportions
So, I was monitoring the ridiculous Peterson Exquisite that just ended for close to 4000, and I couldnt help but feel that something was fishy. After it ended, I got an email from reader Ben who alerted me to this other auction that had pictures of the before card. Wow. Some people are douchebags.
New Auction
Notice the similarities? Hmm.
It is fucking ridiculous that some giant container of drippy ass runoff would actually ruin this card, but even more ass that he would try to pawn it off on some unsuspecting idiot. Can you imagine how it would feel to be had for close to 4000? I would take a life. I am thuper cereal about that.
What I would do for that guys address and phone number.

Vikings Recap: Week 2
Holy fuck, what a week. Especially for the Vikings and their awful inability to score a TD with one of the best running backs in the league. He puts up 160, they cant put up a 7. Seriously, I was almost in tears.
Coaching
This week wasn’t so much about coaching, but I have to give a hugely positive review to Leslie Frazier, the defensive coordinator. Pitching a shut out in the first half is tough - especially when that team has Manning at the helm. I was NOT surprised when they came back, but 18 points in like 2 minutes was frustrating, not to mention the fucking lateral that got them close. Again, not coaching, and we will get to that in a second.
Adrian Peterson
Coming into this season I knew he would have to face 8-9 in the box every play with an epic fail like Jackson behind center. Yet, for some reason he still gets 4-5 yards per carry. I think I have only seen him stopped for a loss on 2-3 occasions this year. That’s pretty nuts. Either way, he pulls out a great game, but cant do anything because TJAX is so awesomely bad.
NOTE: I was a little scared when he came off the field after his last run. You cant expect a guy to carry the ball that much any more. The D is much more powerful and able to hurt than 1990 when Sanders was running circles around people. Its not the same game, so give Taylor more carries if you want Peterson to last the season.
Tarvaris Jackson
When that last drive in the 4th came up and we were tied 15-15, is there anyone else who could actually think of a worse guy to lead that drive? I seriously racked my brain and couldn’t think of anyone. Maybe the Gophers second string QB. That might be worse. Maybe Gary Anderson would come out of retirement for one drive - definitely worse. Of course, they went 3 and out, what a bunch of bad play calling and even worse execution. I knew it was over when Peyton "Cut That Meat" Manning got the ball with time. It was almost in the bag.
Besides that last drive, TJAX was awful. It wasn’t even awful, it was pitiful. I was actually feeling for his mother, because I knew she couldn’t possibly think her son was still amazing. That’s a sad time in a Mama's life.
Each time he dropped back, I cringed and died a little inside. Then, when Rice wasn’t playing, you knew things were bad. He was the victims of some crucial drops, but this is still something that cant be forgiven. Its time to get on the horn and find someone.
Defense
Great, great game. I don’t blame you guys for giving up that last drive for 3 to lose. Even the best defense in the league would have had trouble. It was nice to see SOME pressure on Manning, with a few sacks, but that should have been a 5 sack game without Saturday and Ugoh.
Also, the secondary needs a lot of work. A LOT. I am hoping that the young guys grow up quickly, but those 2 INTs were nice. For having a top 5 shutdown corner in the game, we looked bad. Gonzalez ran ALL OVER US, and Wayne wasn’t much slower. They never should have gotten beat like that.
Visanthe Shiancoe
I want you gone more than Childress. You are awful.
Bryant McKinnie
I want you back more than the next season of LOST. Yes that bad. Don’t fuck up again. Most teams can survive with a banged up line, we cant. Not with TJAX at QB.
Overall, this game had two high points in All Day and the defense's first half, but for every good play, there were 4 bad ones. You cant lose these lynchpin games at home and expect to be a playoff team. Also, let Jackson ride the pine for a game. See what Frerotte can do. Its not that hard to hand the ball off for 30 plays and throw twenty passes. Cross your fingers.

I Am Not A Fan Of Stupid EBAY Sellers
I used to believe that feedback provided a great picture of who a seller was. However, I found out that was a sham quite early. Then I figured that if I do my own research, I could counteract a lot of the shitbag sellers that are out there. That worked for a good seven years until this month. Now I cant trust myself or the fucking system.

Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous Wax Breaker
Yesterday, I sat down at my computer and started to watch a series of youtube videos that made me cheer and want to scream all at once. These videos consisted of 3 guys from the Philippines, sitting around a table, busting around 50 cases of Exquisite Basketball. The funny thing is that this is not the first time this has been done! They had busted more cases before the video and will bust more cases after. In fact, the guy said that once they are all done, they probably will have busted close to 150 cases.
Lets take a look at this, as I don’t believe this happens ALL that often. Lets say they get this stuff at a deal, around 1000 bucks a case just to make things easy. That’s over 3 hundred dollars off the retail price, and still, its more money than some people spend on a house. Obviously, these guys have a ton of money, and it harkens back to my post on what I would do if I was a rich ass bitch with boats of money.
Here is the problem, after they are done with each installment of their hugemungous case break, they plug their eBay name. Yes, they sell a TON of cards on eBay, and from what they pulled, it makes them a lot of money. The question I asked myself was, "they have enough money to bust all this high end of high end, yet they still sell everything?" For me, I kind of thought that this was a microcosm of the hobby these days, mainly because there are very few people - especially people like these guys - who bust for the collecting aspect of it. They keep a few cards im sure, but the main goal of the break was to make more money to break more stuff.
Now, don’t go leaving comments that say that you bust to keep the cards, as I know what kind of collectors roam the blogosphere. However, once you see what they pull, selling some of the stuff is probably necessary for space's sake. On the other hand, I saw two or three of the dual and triple logomen they had on eBay, so I guess pulling something like that doesn’t mean much to them.
Here are some of the highlights of their cases:
- At least two auto boxes (Durant, Horford)
- At least 4 Durant Limited Logo Autos (beautiful patches)
- At least 4 Durant RC Patches
- Durant Gold RC Patch 35/35
- Michael Jordan 1/1 plate auto (I hate plates, but this was autoed at least)
- Dual Logoman Auto of Durant and Garnett
- Dual Logoman Auto of Melo and Garnett
- Michael Jordan/Kobe Bryant dual scripted swatches /5
- Triple Logoman of Dwight Howard and two guys that made no difference
- One other Triple logoman
- At least one complete set of RC Auto Patches
- At least one complete set of Limited Logos
- Likely close to 20-30 MJ and LBJ autos.
Is this kind of thing the most fun thing you could ever do as a collector? Oh fuck yes.
Is this kind of thing a testament to the state of the hobby? You bet your ass.
Is it better to spend $150,000 on a Ferrari? In a second.

Lifestyles of The Rich and Famous Set Collectors
Holy shit. This is fucking awesome/"redockulis" at the same time. Here is an auction for completed Contenders auto sets from the entire run of the product. Wow.
Yet, for every cool thing you may think, there is a stupid fucking idiot thing too. First off, the sets are all going to encased in beckett holders. WHY WOULD YOU RUIN SUCH BEAUTY!?! Give me a fucking break! I would demand this not happen if I was buying. Secondly, you have to go make an appearance at the hobby's number one authority on douchebaggery to claim your prize? That is beyond fucking dumb. Why does Beckett have to insert their grubby fucking fingers into everything? They are like the paparazzi of this industry. I hope someone throws a drink at their moving car!
Either way, its still pretty cool that the guy has taken the coolness to put these together.
Will it sell? Fuck no - not at that price.
A Comment On Shipping Prices
Ok, im pissed. I want to buy a card on TWGM, but the shipping costs are astronomical. He wants 8 dollars for shipping, despite this only being one normal sized card. He mentions nothing in terms of insurance and when I emailed him, he said it was for packaging, handling etc. That is fucking bullshit. Basically this guy wants to recoup his fees, plus some, and per eBay, this is illegal.
Let me break this down:
Card cost: $65
Normal shipping cost per USPS: 2.20 (w/delivery confirmation)
Normal shipping cost plus insurance:$3.59
Bubble mailer: 89 cents at any walgreens or target
Total imaginable cost: 4 something?
Actual cost: probably less than 3 bucks
I charge 3 bucks for shipping when I sell something, please explain where he gets 8? That is almost double the price of shipping plus insurance! I guess my card will have to wait as this is fucking high way ass fucking robbery.

Imagine The Possibilities...
I have always wondered how close we are to a set made up of all 1/1 cards. Nothing else, just one of one everything. I know that Razor is coming out with their extreme high end cut signature set, but I am talking about a sports based set.
I would expect that this new type of set would be around exquisite prices, if not much more than the already high price, and would contain an array of cards. It wouldn’t be all logos and other special cards. Im guessing it will be an Upper Deck product, and it will cause a huge reaction, both good and bad, from collectors everywhere. Each pack, would contain a 1/1 base card, a 1/1 jersey card, a 1/1 Jersey auto card, and one other special card. I would expect it would be at least $800-900 per pack, and it would sell out in a second.
If you think about it, its not that much of a novelty anymore. I mean, each jersey they get has at least 6-15 potential patches that could be used for 1/1 purposes, such as logos, letters, team name neck patches, laundry tags, buttons, etc. Of course there is never a shortage of autos, so im sure that this would be huge. Also, with the 5-16 patches per jersey (on average, ha!) we could expect a print run of 100-200 per player, all with 1/1 serial numbers. Face it, it could be done.
I would also like to see what they could pull out for 8-10 person autograph cards, as the octographs are usually pretty stunning, and I think it was UD portraits that had the decagraphs with 10 players on one 8x10.
Now, I would never buy this in a million years, as it would be pretty obvious that my 900 bucks could be spent elsewhere, but that wouldn’t stop everyone from purchasing. I have seen people bust cases of Exquisite at once, even with the expectation that they will not make their money back. I expect this new product would be no different. However, if Topps were to get ahold of this idea first, you can kiss it goodbye, as it would just be Triple Threads with more 1/1s (as if that was possible). Personally, UD would be the only one I would want to make it, as they are the originators of the ultra high end products, and they do it the best - most of the time.
My guess is that it would be called UD White Label or UD Extravagence, so that it would seem "better" than Exquisite. But honestly, is this type of thing "better" for the hobby? My answer is a muddled gray mess, as it seems like this is the next logical step, but also its fucking crazy-go-nuts. Im hoping that when (not if) this product is created, it will be done with the collectors in mind. It has endless possibilities for cool, never before seen cards, and I think it is a pretty obvious place to screw people over with one color jerseys and awfully paired duals, triples and quads.
Either way, here's to a card that looks like this:

Two Unbelievable Auctions, I Cant Stop Laughing
The first card is one of the Hair Cut cards I discussed a few posts back, with this one being the best of the best. The cut is nice, the hair is creepy, but overall, its not suprising to see it reach the price it did because of the circumstances. The funny thing about this auction is that the card has a 5 cm piece of the hair. At least the Washington card had a good strand, this one, however, is crap - despite it being weirdly included in a baseball card set. Again, a piece of our country's history is destroyed for profit.
The second is a 1/1 Mantle Bat Barrell that was out of Topps Sterling. Besides it being sold by Beckett, this auction screams "I AM THE STUPIDEST PERSON IN THE HISTORY OF CARD COLLECTING!" about its seller. Let me elaborate: first mistake, this fucking idiot sent his prized pull to the hobby's number one source on douchebaggery. Good idea, idiot. Secondly he had them slab it in this fucking "ROZDUCKULOUS" case because its obvious the foldout cards are beyond Beckett's capabilities. Big suprise there. Lastly, Topps couldnt include some game used jersey in this card? Instead they used some stark white old timer game jersey? Cmon, that is fucking stupid. However, the funniest thing about this idiot and his card? He had them grade it. Monday, August 11, 2008
Manufacturing Letters Doesnt Make You Cool
Listen, if you want to release a product with game used autographed letter patches, more power to you, I will support you. If you want to release a product with manufactured autographed letter patches, more power to you, I will support you. If you want to release a product with Manufactured letters that are not autographed, I will not support you, and I will probably make fun of it. If you are going to release a product with manfuactured letter patches and sticker autographs on those letters, I will laugh at you, make fun of you, and trash your set for years to come. If you comprise THE WHOLE FUCKING PRODUCT on this premise, you deserve to be ritually killed by the amodasac tribe of northern Zimbabwe.
To tell you the truth, I don’t really mind letter patches as long as they are game used, autographed, or both. The autograph is all that matters to me on manufactured letter patches. I think its stupid when they spell out weird shit, so lets try to keep it to last, and at the maximum, first names. Then I don’t have to wonder if my "F" letter from my Frank Gore letter set is for "Frank" or if its from "Fuck Me This Is Ridiculous."
In fact, I think its pretty cool when you get a nice autographed letter patch from SPA of a good player. The 49ers letters, the Lions letters, all the other three color namplate teams are really nice pieces to display. However, teams like the Vikings, the Chargers, and the Cowboys tend to be kind of boring. Still this is still very nice to display, and I am crossing my fingers for a Peterson set this year.
Personally I think these letters are nice because of their display potential. On the other hand, it is not cool if you go on ebay to spell out your username in picures, especially if you have some stupid players that help you to do it. It is pure idiocy at work that you actually took the time to put that banner together. If you go and buy the letters that spell out your user name, you have taken it to the next level of dumbassery. It does not make you look cool.
Lastly, I want to address Topps Letterman Football, and more importantly, Topps in general:
Dear Topps,You suck. Your stickers suck. Your lame attempts at letter patches suck. It was especially sucky that you decided to combine the two. Also, it was the lamest of the lame for you to make letter sets for the presidential candidates, they don’t belong in a card set other than allen and ginter. Stop trying to do gimmicks to sell your products and start putting together good products instead. Plus, if I have to endure another fucking foldout idea, I will stab you in the liver with a dulled steak knife. You may be asking what a good product consists of. Well it means on card sigs, or AT LEAST clear stickers with no "TOPPS CERTIFIED" wording on them, and no more recessed auto windows. Those are fucking ugly. In fact, no more auto windows at all, lets just focus on making the cards pretty. Yes, that would be nice.
Sincerely,
Gellman

A Comment On Stadium Club Football
I was going to write a product review for Stadium Club just like I did for Threads, but honestly I cant find many good things to say about this product. The price point is an abortion at 170+ dollars and the cards look awful. I really thought this set had potential, but holy fucking fuck this stuff is not worth even a pack purchase. Topps has not understood the art of clear stickers, and I think it has become as ugly as the foil stickers that UD used FIVE FUCKING YEARS AGO.

Could This Be The Best Ever?
Holy shit. This card is the most fucking "REDYKOLOSE" card I have seen in a long time. First off, you have a Jim Thorpe cut autograph, a person whose signature sells at or around Ruth when in good shape. Turn it over and you have a cut of Payton signed as "Sweetness." In all truthfulness, the Payton cut isnt that good, but at least its not a phone card.

Add It To The Ever Growing List
Exquisite Golden Ticket Box Auction
Im not going to say anything about this other than from what people are saying, one of the five people who were involved in this event let Beckett build their exquisite box, and now it is being sold for a "REDECUELOS" price. Discuss.
Topps, I Am Bored With Triple Threads
Yes, you have signed a bunch of new HOFers to your stable, and yes, you have added some content to the set, but in reality, I am way too fucking bored with this set to even think about wanting to buy singles. It seems like every year, this set has the same guys with the same cards and just different die cut windows. Last year, I was kind of interested to see what was added to make it better than 2006 and I was thoroughly disappointed. This year, although a lot of players have been added, the set really hasnt changed.
Of an 18 box case you are guaranteed 18 auto cards. 1 will be a triple auto and there is also a guaranteed 1/1 auto too. Of course, these 1/1s are actually like 1/18, but thats a different post entirely. If you look at the rest of the 16 auto cards at least 8 of them will be no-name rising star auto/relics. These sell for an average of $1.99 on TWGM, and they are the reason I wont touch this shit with someone else's 10 foot pole. So, that leaves you a 8 autos besides the two 1/1s that will be worth your time. I would say 4 of these autos are base versions of some non-important player, leaving you with a mere 6 boxes out of 18 that will have something worth your time. Of those 6 boxes, I would say 1-2 will contain an auto card worth more than 100 bucks, and most of the time it those arent the awfully designed triple auto cards. As for relics, most of them will be 5 dollar cards unless you pull a rare president, foldout (still awfully designed), or Mantle(non-game used relics), Ruth, Maris, or Gherig Relic. So, for a $2000 case or even a $170 box, there is no reason to even think about busting this. Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Contrary to Common Belief, High Price 1st Week DOES NOT Equal High Price After That
Lets face it, the Coe Jollectors love to jump on products when they are hot. THEY LIVE FOR IT. What they dont get is that after the first weeks, you can pretty much cut the price by 20-50% for the remainder of the time. No matter what happens, TWGM jumps in volume sold and price when things are first listed.
The reason I am bringing this up is because Topps Football was just released and not only are people falling all over themselves to buy in at the 85+ dollar price for a box (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!), but they are also killing any surviving brain cells by paying "REDICOLUS" prices for the rookie premiere autos.
This has led more sellers to post enormous BIN/BOs on their auctions, while others dont even bother with the BO, and just expect people to buy their third string WR red ink auto at $250. Lets go over something:
1. All Day (ROY, all time yds leader single game, beastly runner with tons of hype) - $300 Bucks
2. Matt Ryan (Plays for a shitty team and wont be good for three years) - $199
3. Darren McFadden (shitty team, wont do half of what peterson did) - $310, sad
4. John David Booty: Red Ink /10 (5th rd pick, 3rd stringer) - $149?
Am I missing something here? I dont know many JCs that would even buy in at these prices. Hell, even I wont buy in on Peterson because I know those prices are going to drop like a rock, not to mention the fact that he has played a year. Yet, people are buying Rashard Fucking "NO SIG" Mendenhall at 230 plus? Fuck!
Someone really needs to have a mass murdering rampage across TWGM, I am super cereal about that.

Product Review: 2008 Topps Football
Well, Topps is here. Yay. I saw a case of jumbos busted at a shop here and I must say this has to be the biggest money burn-fest I have seen in a long time. You seriously will have better luck playing the lottery than hitting something big with this stuff.
THE GOOD
The design of the cards is pretty nice. Its sleek and clean and it works well with a lot of the colors in the pictures. They have included a lot of nice looking insert sets again, including some new ones like the dynasty tributes, and all of them look pretty good. Personally, I think this product would be a lot better with some chrome cards included, but I guess we will have to wait for those. It was also nice to see every rookie from the premiere decked out in their digs, and the Rookie Premiere Autographs will definitely be the only reason to buy this product once again. Seriously, there is not a single reason to buy a hobby box of this over the jumbos unless you are collecting the sets. The RPAs are jumbo exclusive, and I think Topps is stupid for not making more of them and not putting them in the hobby too.
THE BAD
Also, I can tell that these cards are pretty much going to have the exact same effect on the hobby this year as last (nothing at all), so I think its about time for Topps to think about adding a little more value to this set.
THE UGLY
Secondly, the performance highlight autos, which no one cares about anyways, are back and they are uglier than ever. Plus, all the rookies are in their college jerseys? Ba-wha? Why? God, this seems like a fucking rush job if I ever saw one. Thanks To This, Beckett Is One Step Closer To The Edge
Beckett Sports Video Gamer? Give me a fucking break, are they really that fucking desperate? This HAS to be a joke.
Seriously, if you are too much of a JC for your own good, the thought of buying this shitbrained excuse for a magazine might actually cross your mind. Otherwise, I hope your sitting back getting a good belly laugh like me.
If I wanted to read articles on Madden that actually made a difference, I would go and read the three million (not an exaggeration) video game sites out there, or maybe even pick up one of the twenty magazines already published.
One thing though, if there is a price guide for video games in there, I swear to god I will steal this magazine from the one bookstore that may actually take a risk on this jizz rag of a magazine and burn it in effigy while doing a traditional native american effigy burning dance.
Beckett, you either have a retarded chimp running things (not that unbelievable - they did hire Tracy Hackler), or you have the biggest case of penis envy the world has ever seen. I hope you die a horrible, horrible death.

Stupid Ideas Vol 1,203,945,857
The only thing tonight's all star game was a testament to was how bad of an idea it was to make this EXHIBITION game count for something. Someone smack the guy who was the deciding vote on this, he is on my shit list.
