Tales From TWGM Ep IV: A New Hope

From time to time, I like to peruse the high price listings of the card section of TWGM just so I can find comedic hobby gold. I warn you, stupidity is to follow. I dont even think the guys who sell this stuff are Coe Jollectors because they seem to be even dumberererer than that. Either way, I bring you...

*cue ominous music*

TALES FROM TWGM!!!

ITS BAAAAACK! The Thorpe GU from Absolute that has the name stitching is back on TWGM, and its still as cool as it was. For those of you who arent familiar with the card, this is like the 1874th time this guy has tried to sell it. Most famously, he listed it as a regular auction, just to see how high it would go, and his friend actually bought it from him to save him the low price it went for. The card never changed hands and a lot of people were pissed because they thought it was shill bidding at its worst. That was a while ago, but its back now, AND GRADED!!! Makes it worth THAT much more! Nice! Put me down for 2 of these cards - who needs rent when you have this?!?

Moving on. Has your dad ever worn an old golf hat as his every day apparel? No? Well mine has, and I imagine a guy like my dad had his signed by "Tiger Woods" at an event and is now selling this. The difference? My dad isnt fucking crazy to ask 9 grand for a beat up hat that may or may not be signed by Tiger. Please! I can get a beautiful picture from UD for less than that! What an idiot. Better than all that? This guy fucking "told" Tiger when he signed it that it would "pay for [his] son's college education." If I were Tiger, I would smack him. Also, $10,000 is a cheap ass school these days. His son must be as bright as dad!

Well, this didnt take long! Obviously this guy wants to cash in on LaPorta's big deal, but this is not something that people should invest in. I couldthink of 25,000 other things I would rather spend this kind of money on. The best part? "Not some B.S. fake 1/1 because its his jersey number!" Thanks for clarifying bud. I love that you took the time to aknowledge the JCs who shop for jersey numbered cards. You rock.

Stay tuned next week for more horrifying displays of human idiocy!

  1. I love lo balling these guys on their best offer and seeing their comments. The Tiger Woods hat guy told me to go F%^$ myself when I offered him $100. But to me it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I don't know if the autograph is real so I'm not offering him big money. If it was PSA/DNA certified, it would be worth maybe $600-$800. I have a beat up hat signed by Favre, maybe I should see who buys this and offer him my hat for half what he's going to pay from Tiger's hat.

  2. The Thorpe is hilarious, but if you look at what the JC's have been paying for LaPorta's Orange Bowman refractor, $3000 for a 1/1 doesn't seem so ridiculous.

  3. ..."If I don't receive an acceptable offer in 5 days I will put this card in my vault and it will not be seen again"...

Better jump on it. Shipping is free and I don't think he's bluffing.

  4. I wonder where he has his "vault". High class collector. My favorite of the above 3 is the Thorpe Patch auction.

    1. He is selling to pay for his son's surgery and lost wages....this may be true, but that additional information is only put in there to get some possible sympathy money (which makes it seem bogus....poor kid being used to make a profit)

    2. In his other auctions he has a sub-title on another Thorpe GU Patch. He describes that card "as the greatest patch card of Thorpe ever"....what does that make his super-premium name plate patch that he is trying to sell for $30000?

    3. He has a 48 Jackie Robinson listed as his rookie and a 49 Jackie Robinson of the same brand listed as his rookie......
