Triple Threads Continues To Fail

Take a look, take a good hard look and see if you can spot the mistake.

I saw this mentioned over on FCB, and I couldnt help but laugh. Seriously, how pissed would you be if you pulled a card like this and then saw that the front borders were meant for another player? I would fucking flip a shit. Aside from being fucking ugly, this card is VERY valuable due to what it contains. The problem for this guy is that Jonathan Stewart will haunt him for the rest of his life.

It does make me wonder though, does the Stewart one have a Stafford front?

Tiger/LeBron Dual Auto Pulled on FCB

I am one of the people who thinks 09-10 Exquisite is an amazing product due to the cards you can pull. Although the box breaks have been craptacular for people who have risked their money, some of the cards are absolutely ridiculous. Thems the breaks, literally.

One of the FCB users broke two cases and came away with a few great cards, including one of the most valuable modern cards ever produced. Not only is it multicolored patches from two of the most expensive players you can pull, but it is also inscribed by both. Could possibly break the 10,000 dollar value ceiling that is usually present on modern cards if he puts it on eBay.

Its a Great Day To Be A Vikings Fan

Holy fuck, what a ridiculous end to a ridiculous game. The Vikings didnt play that well, but came out ahead thanks to Jared Allen's "Silver Fox." I yelled so loud my neighbors slapped on the wall, and my wife thought I was dead. It got that crazy around the Gellman house today around 1 PM.

A few minutes after the game ended, I couldnt help but think about what happened a few years ago in a typical slugfest between the Pack and Vikes. The Vikings had just marched down the field and scored a touchdown to go up by a point or two on Favre, but there was a problem I saw right away. There was still time on the clock, and with Favre at the helm, any time is too much. He, of course, drove down to field goal range without much effort and they kicked a field goal to win. Today, I cant tell you how great it was to have that feeling going FOR you instead of against.

It wasnt all Favre either, as Greg Lewis just made a ridiculous catch, best I have seen under pressure in a LONG time.I gotta give him credit, what a fucking unbelievable heads up play. Either way, Favre put in a place where he could be the only one to catch it, and the Vikes walked away 3-0.

Leading up to the end of the game, Harvin also showed why Minnesota picked him. He had some clutch catches, including one on 3rd and ten with less than 30 seconds on the clock. I couldnt believe that kick return TD either as he literally made the defense look like they were running in slow motion. He is going to be a monster, thats all I have to say.

Peterson didnt have a great game, but it wasnt 14 carries for 3 yards either. It would have been nice to see him more involved in the scoring, but the Niners' D looked great when the Vikings handed him the ball.

All in all, just a great game to watch. I cant wait for next week, that has potential to be even better.

Exquisite Basketball Takes a Final Bow

UD released pics of 09-10 Exquisite Basketball today, right on the heels of 08-09 Exquisite Basketball taking the net by storm. This will be coming out next week on 9/30 (?!?) and looks like this is a wonderful end to a set that redefined the hobby. Back in 2004 when Exquisite was first released, it was quickly elevated to legendary status with the stratospheric prices of the shortprinted Melo, Lebron and Dwade rookie auto patches.

Although the design is EXACTLY the same as the 03-04 set, it will feature cards that Basketball has never had before. This includes throwback Rookie Auto Patches of people like Jordan, Tiger and John Elway, as well as people like Sidney Crosby, all in the old design. It also features some ridiculous duals, including a Tiger/Bron dual auto, and a Tiger/Jordan dual auto patch. Can you imagine how much these will be worth? Its absurd to even fathom.

It will also feature the non-exclusive 09-10 rookies, as well as the usual suspects, so you can assume that Limited Logos and all the faves will be back. Its also going to have a logoman set as well as a few cards that are new(er) looking, so it wont all be 03-04.

Im still not sold on the use of an old design with no changes to it, but 03-04 is such an iconic set, its almost like the first High End retro product. Its probably going to have a normal MSRP, so its going to be tough to afford for those of you who dont normally buy it, but I think the possibilities are endless. The only issue I see is that the promotional materials are advertising that there are at least 2 autos per box, which means that for 600+ you may only end up with two autos. That sucks. That sucks major fucking balls. Im sure most of the boxes will contain much more than that, but the prospects of a two auto box with one being a rookie is awful. We will have to wait on the first breaks to see.

Well, Exquisite Basketball, it was nice knowing you. Thanks for the memories.

Could A Scrub Be The Most Expensive Chrome Auto Of The Year?

Demetrius Byrd played his college ball at LSU, was picked late in the 7th round of the NFL draft, and Topps couldnt even get a uniformed pic of him for the cards they produced. Crazy enough, the odds of pulling his auto out of chrome are MORE THAN the odds of pulling a Superfractor, thus making this cardthe most expensive scrub auto ever made.

Now, this could easily be a mistake, but Byrd's odds are listed at 1:7000 packs for his autograph. To pull a 1/1 superfractor, the odds are one in just under 3700 packs. Im guessing that if the odds are true, Topps must not have gotten many signed stickers back from him, therefore limiting the amount produced and inserted. There were enough to put him on the checklist, but so few that the odds are closer to one every 24 cases. Based on that, you can expect that the amount of Byrd's total signatures are less than any other player ever produced in a Chrome set. Crazy.

Factor in that Topps Chrome is one of the most widely collected sets of the year, and this autograph may be worth more than most of the other players from the past few years. Rarity drives price in these cases, and saying this card is Rare is an understatement.

Sometimes You Find People That Are Awesome On Boards

I think that being a part of Freedom Card Board has had its benefits, no doubt. A few weeks ago, I posted about the autographed jersey that moderator Flightposite sent to me for winning a contest over there, and now I have something that is just as awesome to report.

Ryo1549 had organized a group of us to participate in a blind trade, where we all sent the players or teams we collected to the host, who would distribute them randomly to other people involved. The assignment was to buy a card for this "victim" that was at least 50 dollars sell value, and send it to them as our part of the "deal." We would receive something similar from another person according to our list we made originally.

Here is what Deceptikon sent me to match my list:

I am stunned, as this is clearly a ridiculous card. As part of the deal we all contributed to a pot for the users, to be awarded for the best card of the bunch. I think this one has a good shot, it has my vote.

Thank you Craig, aka Deceptikon 1978!

Why God, Why?

So, I came across this thread on Blowout's forums about this guy who is happy he has all 20 of the Triple Suck relic books for their set of complete ass. These are the ones that have, wait for it, 24 different die cut windows per card, all spelling out some of the weirdest shit you could ever fucking think of.

Now, you all know how I feel about each year's JC Memorial Set, but this is absolutely fucking nuts! I cannot understand why anyone would want singles from this set, let alone ALL the fucking cards from the UGLIEST part of the years UGLIEST set.

Yeah yeah, to each his own, but hot damn, this is ridiculous. I do give him credit for finding a way to display these eye sores. Congrats for completing the worst of the worst, im not going to repeat the golden rule of topps collecting for the 8th time on here, you all know it.

Just to give you an idea of what these cards are capable of, I put TWO rows of them together. Yes, it only takes two rows of these steaming piles of watery goat turds to make you cry...

Taking Set Collecting To The EXTREME!

Sometimes, when second worlders take a shot at set collecting, they set their sights very high. Every once in a great while, someone takes that to a whole new level. This auction is for every RC Patch Auto out of 2007 Exquisite Football, and I am not only jealous, but really fucking impressed. Not only does he have the complete set, but he has some nice ass patches on most of the cards, including a ridiculous 3-color on the Peterson. Of course, these patches are event used, but for the sake of this showcase, they are really nice. He even got a 3 color on the Russell, which is tough, considering that the home half of the jerseys are 2 colors for the whole jersey, and the away jerseys are only three colors on the front and back numbers.

I can imagine that this set took a long time to complete, and also took a shit ton of money. The sad thing is that he wants 14K for this lot, and I dont think he will come even close. Its just too much money for someone to pay, as most of the RCs in this set will never amount to much. As a set, thats a little different, but that may be a lot too much to ask.

Either way, its cool to see a guy that took the time to complete his set.

Ok, holy shit. I did not expect this.

So remember when I talked about selling that lot of cards based on the idea that selling your crap in a lot is much better than selling individually? Well, coincidentally, its the truth at the moment.

Wow. Glad to see that my unwanted cards now has the possibility to get me a new Peterson auto or two. Now, granted, having the publicity from this site has definitely contributed to publicity, but its still interesting to see it go for this much.

If you bid, thank you.

Sometimes You Just Wonder...

So, this weekend, I was on a trek to the grocery store, and I spotted a store that I had never seen before. It had always been there, I just never noticed it tucked away in a little strip mall, about 10 minutes from my apartment my mother's basement.

From the decorations, it is one of those shops that never updates anything, and just relies on being there for customers. I decided to go in, despite the Beckett propaganda all over the front entrance. It was a small store, but they seemed to have a few people inside, which was intriguing, but not encouraging. The experience I had was one of the worst experiences I have had in a store since I started writing. It wasnt poor customer service, and it wasnt mean people, it was just pure, unadulterated loathing and ridiculous comments.

I wanted some SPA packs just to try my luck, but this store didnt even have anything past Bowman Chrome on the release calendar except for a monsterous display of, you guessed it, Triple Threads. I immediately cringed.

As I walked through the store, the guy had singles upon singles, upon thousands of singles, mostly baseball, ALL priced AT book value. In the cases there were big signs that informed that most of the cards were 25%-40% percent off for their Valentines day sale. Ha. However, when the cards are already inflated 100% past ACTUAL value, 25-40% is a drop in the bucket. Again, I cringe.

The store owner, a seemingly nice guy, comes over to me while I was looking at the Football case. He starts to talk about how this guy comes in with hundreds of "SIIIICK" cards, and he buys them all for a lot of money because, "people eat that shit up." *cringe* The cards in the case were all the 2 dollar jersey cards and scrub autos from all the sets of the year, with the best of them being a McFadden Press Poop auto in a 3 inch thick plastic screwdown. On top of all this, there was a huge sticker on it that said "McFadden MOJO - $150!" I almost barfed up my corned beef sandwich I had eaten for lunch. He proceeds to show me all of his "siiiick" cards, which include a Dwayne Jarrett exquisite jersey card, a Joe Thomas Absolute RPM jersey card, and a Felix Jones jersey out of Classics retail - all priced above 50 dollars.

He even mentions how much he paid for around 350-500 cards, none of which would break the ten dollar barrier on eBay: $2,500 dollars. I actually laughed. He gave me a weird look, and I said, "Wow, you took him to the cleaners" in a sincere fashion. The owner goes, "I know! The guy was an idiot!" Wow, good for him. Good for him.

I walk over to his front counter with the wax, filled with Becketts, and another customer was already there. He was about to buy a box of the *new* 2008 Topps Football, and he saw the guy's new holy grail behind the counter. A Steve Slaton SPA patch auto, without a price sticker on it. He asks if its for sale, the owner says no. "Slaton has an UP ARROW in the new Beckett, so I want to wait and see where it ends up." The guy says that Slaton is awesome, and he buys his box and leaves. I saw the price of the box - 85 dollars. Holy fuck.

I ask if he has any more SPA, for shits, and he says he sold his box already. He opened one himself and pulled the Slaton. He then says a line that I had to leave before I busted out laughing for good. "You should get this Triple Threads stuff, there is some of the Sickest Mojo I have ever seen in my entire life! Best set ever produced. I bought two cases because I know people will buy it all up."

I left without hesitation. It was like being in a church if I were a vampire.

It is at this point in reading my post that you wonder how a store with all this shit going on stays open. I know that I couldnt fathom how shops are closing everywhere, but this guy is still having the time of his fucking life. See, the Beckett disease is still supporting hobby idiots, and people are still using it for their daily collecting life. Its sad. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the affected.

Dont be that guy.

What a waste.

Holy Crap: UD and Topps Are Out of the NBA Card Market

Holy Hitter passed along some interesting info that takes exclusive contracts to a whole new crappy level. From the end of this year forward, the only company liscenced to produce NBA trading cards will be Panini, an italian company. Thats right, UD and Topps are done with Basketball cards as we know it, through 2012-13.

Personally, I think this totally takes a huge loose and chunky dump on everything that we have expected from the card market, and though it could be good for international collectors, it should prevent everything from being awesome here.

I dont collect basketball cards, and dont really care about current players, but I see how invested a lot of people are in the current NBA market. Internationally, NBA cards are the top of the mountain, and now those people are out in the cold.

I sincerely hope this does not transfer over to other sports, and my thoughts and prayers are with the families of all the NBA collectors affected by this fucking awful tragedy.

Prime Cuts: HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!

Guys, I have never had a break like this. Ever.

I think this could be the best two boxes we could have hoped for, and for the people who got the main hits, congrats on two fucking ridiculous cards.

The break video will be up in an hour or two, my computer doesnt save quickly. I am still shaking from these pulls, and I hope you guys are as happy as I am...

BOX 1 - Joe Jackson/Jim FUCKING Thorpe Dual Relic 3/25

I guess this goes to the White Sox as Thorpe didnt really play for a team. Fucking amazing card.

BOX 2 - Cal Ripken Jr TRIPLE RIDONKULOUS PATCH AUTO 6/10

Big thanks to Shawn at DACardworld for sending us two amazing boxes.
