Tales From TWGM 5: Tommy Gunn?

From time to time, I like to peruse the high price listings of the card section of TWGM just so I can find comedic hobby gold. I warn you, stupidity is to follow. I dont even think the guys who sell this stuff are Coe Jollectors because they seem to be even dumberererer than that. Either way, I bring you...

TALES FROM TWGM!!!

First, we have a delightful AND informative auction where you can have 40,000 baseball cards for $1,000,000. THATS ONLY 25 bucks a card!!! Wow!! You know what's great? You can have 120,000 cards for 3,000,000 bucks, as this auction is up 3 times!! If you use eBay's 10% off coupon, it could bring it down to 900,000 per lot, but yeah, who wants to give up the bragging rights of dropping a mil on some cards? Nice.

Second up we have the oft auctioned Braun Superfractor out of 05 chrome. For 13 grand, you would think that this card should be a little bit more of an investment than a "fun purchase." Man, too bad it isnt graded, that would make it worth at least eleventy billion dollars if it was a 10. I would say that this card is pretty special, but it takes a certain kind of guy to buy something at this price., maybe Olbermann? Nah, not a Yankees player.

Lastly, I am moving SCU and winning this auction. The new site will be at Brian's Baseball Cards or http://www.briansbaseballcards.com. Since this domain costs 10K, I will need some help in purchasing - Will and Charlie will each chip in $3,333.33 and everything will go great. Best part about winning this? Multiple email addresses come with it! Be sure to email me at briansbaseballcards@gmail.com from now on.

Tales From TWGM 3: The Return of The King

TALES FROM TWGM!!!

First, I think this may be the coolest Tom Brady item I have ever seen. Not only do you get BOTH printing plates from a little known set from 2000, but you also are spending the price of a used Subaru Forester! Personally, I would rather have the cards, as Subaru Foresters are usually driven by 40 something women who want to reclaim their youth. In all seriousness, this guy should get them graded, they may become even MORE valuable.

Next we have this amazing Peyton Manning card. I think the guy wants $9,000 for it because it is numbered 16/2000 - his "collage" jersey number. You cant beat that. A card numbered to eleventy billion, ANNNNND its graded SGC 92. YESSSSSS! Too bad its not numbered 99/2000, because 9+9=18 - his "profossinel" jersey number!! Also, no best offer on this, so forget your lowball offer of $8999.95.

Lastly, we have this auction for the auto version of the Hank Aaron piece of history bat card from Upper deck. First off, I cannot believe how popular these cards are, as I have counted at least fifteen people alone on the IBMB who collect this set. The cards go for mega bucks, despite the fact that most only have bat pieces. BAT PIECES. I have written numerous times on the absurdity of including bat pieces in a card specific to a certain player, but I guess, the people didnt listen. If it was jersey, I would be a little more okay with the price. Either way, the cards do look nice, and the price is high, but not crazy-go-nuts high, so I guess I should take notice.

Tales From TWGM

Has anyone seen this card? Holy fucking christ! I would have shit my pants if this ended up in my hands. Now, if there is one thing that has a large market, its civil war collectibles - and this is a doozie. I still stand by my mantra that our country's historical documents should not be destroyed for these purposes, but this is pretty cool none-the-less! Too bad they had to cut this card as it is because those signatures should be seen in all their glory.

Here is another card that I think is absolutely amazing from this set, as Edison and Einstein are two of the greatest scientific minds in the history of the world. I am so fucking glad that they couldnt get their hands on a Di Vinci auto to destroy, so this is kind of like a silver medal. That being said, wow. Both of the above cards are commanding the price of a car for the card, so I think that is ludicrious, but again, who would want to sell this thing? Its not like its going to lose value over time...

Next, I have something that I found kind of funny. Here is an auction for a guy who is selling a collection of patch cards from the worlds most faked over set. I dont think I have ever seen a non-fake from this set. Granted, some of the cards in his lot may be real, but this one is so funny that it isnt even close to being real.

A little background: Greg Maddux was on the 2000 All Star Team as a pitcher, but never played in the game due to injury. That makes this patch that much more hysterical that the donkey raper who made it didnt do all their research. Of course, only a Joe Collector would pay for something like this (especially numbered /25), but only the Joe Collectorist of the Joe Collectors would value it at $1500 for this auction. Please, please, please go check this out.
