This Kind Of Makes Me Sad (UPDATED)

This card sets off all sorts of red flags, first off. Its from a guy whose name is "hotpacksgalore," sells all hot packs except for a bunch of ridiculous Ultimate patch cards that look suspect, and then there is this Peterson. A great and wonderful person acting in our hobby. Now, I am NOT SURE if this isnt real (not anymore, see below), but there is a lot of things I dont like about the auction.

First, the card is WAY too conveniently cropped. Because there is only 10 of these cards, and many of them have been put on eBay, including the one I bought, he probably needed to conceal the number. Then, when you factor in that the small picture of the card again conveniently is just too small to see the numbers, more red flags pop up. In my experience, people who go out of their way to show their item this way, are doing it because they have something to hide.

Also, I FUCKING LOVE these cards and have been tracking all of them that have popped up on eBay. Although some feature nice patches, there have been ZERO logos in the ones /10. From the sell sheet, the 1/1s feature logos, but not these. Fishy if you ask me.

I wouldnt touch this card with someone else's ten foot pole, but someone found it convincing enough to drop five bills on. That is something I will never understand.

EDIT: THIS CARD HAS BEEN CONFIRMED FAKE. Here is the card when the set was released. What. A. Fucking. DOUCHEBAG.

h/t MARK - thank you buddy!

  1. People who dump money without research deserve what they get. No need to understand them, just pity them.

I don't care if it was numbered to FIVE. I would still be suspicious. Presenting it in that fashion shows great attention to detail. You don't do that unless you're gonna do a 1/1 and even then...

  2. With only 10 copies, the autos should be extremely easy to match to the pre-modded card if it can be found. No need to have the serial.

Still don't know why these companies can't make a publicly accessible database of high-end patch cards. It'll cost a little to set up but will definitely make people feel safer buying their cards.

  3. 300400442550 - ebay item number. Match up the signatures on this card. The hotpacksgalore seller told me the card he is selling is serial number '8/10' and the one I found was 6/10. He refused to show me a close up shot.

I kind of already did some research on this card. It's very frustrating that a seller would tear apart an awesome card like that.

  6. Also, is there any way to contact the buyers of his auctions to let them know they are buying frauds?

  8. "hotpacksgalore" buyer ebay account must be "sports_royalty123"...lol I bet we can match up some of the cards he has bought and find more cards he faked....

  9. lmao just looked up his name on ebay - both accounts - both are from NJ, United States. ALSO if your wondering how he sells so many SP authentic hot pack patch auto's...look at all the cheap patch auto's he has bought...He most likely is just resealing them in packs and selling them as hot packs and makes 30-40 more than he paid for the patch auto's themselves...

  10. Hey Gellman, I had to email the seller about the card, here is the response that I got:

I bought the card in a show in garfield nj.I paid $400 for it. I was not trying to hide the number of the card. I tried to crop it so buyers can see the patch and auto better. The card number was 8/10.Let me know if it was your card. I am sick no knowing if things are real or fake. It is ruining the hobby

I had to get a laugh out of what he was trying to say.
