At this point, I think base Topps is completely worthless in this hobby, mainly with Chrome now at a ridiculously low price tag, and the fact that low end football doesnt have the same following as low end baseball. Add in that Chrome usually comes out a week or two later, and there is no reason to even think this will be a good buy.
With that, Topps has decided to make it a little bit more interesting by adding, you guessed it, manufactured letter autos of the RCs. Lets hope they dont end up like the disasters that were Topps Lettermen Letters. They also added dual autos and some extra gimmicks. Wow, didnt see that coming.
Ill wait for Chrome, but regardless, the design isnt great in my opinion, baseball OR football.

Not too bad looking but I probably won't buy any. Thanks for the sneak peak!
ReplyDeleteI take it the Manning card is a base card?? That is bit of a departure from recent years where Topps Football has had the same design as Topps Baseball.
ReplyDeleteDon't forget the cheerleader cards (as shown on the Beckett Blog). Does Topps feel that they have to resort to putting cards of cheerleaders as inserts to get people to buy their packs? Surely they know better than that.

ReplyDeleteTopps baseball featured a graphic resembling home plate on the design, so that wouldnt really fit in football. Not that these are any better.
If the team and player names on the Manning are printed, not foil, it's a very nice simple clean design for a base card.
ReplyDeleteActually, not bad looking at all. That dual auto card looks pretty nice. Not bad for a base product.

I think it's funny that you mention lettermen here. Lettermen, which is an expensive product, has piece of crap sticker autos. Here is base Topps with on-patch letter cards. I'm not a big fan of the letters to begin with but way to undercut one of your moneymaking products there, Topps.
