Super Bowl Fallout Reaches That Annoying Level In The Hobby

Thanks to a simple designation of MVP, that I think should have gone to Harrison, Santonio Holmes' cards have taken a VERY significant jump. Personally, I think he had one good drive that ended up with a great catch, but Harrison's rumblin railroad of an interception return at the end of the half turned a tie game into a 10 point lead. That was the game right there, and one of the craziest plays in super bowl history, not to mention the sheer athleticism displayed by a 300 pound defensive player.

Regardless of what I think, Holmes SPAs have jumped close to, if not more than 100 dollars, and the rest of his cards have taken a similar jump. Its funny, because its almost like people dont understand that he really isnt THAT good of a receiver (yet), and that Hines Ward is still the poster boy in Pittsburgh. Next year it will be more of the same, crippling the receiving core of my fantasy teams with game after game of 3 catches for 40 yards, then when I bench him, getting 5 catches for 140 and 2 TDs.

The bandwagon in this industry is a fickle cart of living in the moment idiot buyers and smart collectors who comb their common auto pile for a good piece to capatilize on. Its almost so stupid that its funny.

  1. What are you talking about? That Harrison INT wasn't the game. The Cards took the lead after that. Holmes made a clutch play (after his non clutch play the exact play before) to win the game.

    End of story.

  2. Harrison should have been thrown out of the game after his personal foul for punching. What a total piece of crap!! I'm glad he didn't get the MVP...100 yard TD or not. And don't try to tell me that's part of the game, any other sport would have sent him to the showers early.

Back to the main part of the post with a question.... didn't AP's card jump again after he broke the record for yards in a game and winning the Rookie of the Year? Never have figured that out. One victory does not a superstar make......

  3. Dear Gellman,

Please let me sell my average cards at an extreme premium without feeling guilty at fleecing the ignorant and emotional.

    Sincerely,

  4. Did I miss a personal foul? I dont remember that.

And yes, AD's cards did jump quite a bit, and I mentioned it at that point to and throughout the rest of the season that his stuff was a terrible idea to buy at that price.

  5. Gellman, the personal foul was towards the end of the game. Cards punted the ball and after the play Harrison threw a couple punches. Granted, it wasn't like hockey punches but more like jabs. Still, it was painfully obvious that it wasn't part of the game. They took half the distance to the goal, which was like six inches at the time. I imagine that the penalty was committed with that in mind.

  7. No Comparison. Santonio is a #1 WR. He would be on the Vikings that is for sure and most teams in the league. Also his cards are right on par. I know because I am king of Holmes :)

They have not gone up that much outside the realm of Steeler collectors. Maybe a couple have but not like you indicate. You are off on this one when it comes to sales

  8. Actually, looking at the regular season stats, Hines Ward is still the Steeler snumber 1 receiver. If it wasn't for the fact that he was injured he may have had a bigger impact in the Super Bowl, and as a result Holmes mightn't have had such a big impact. The number receiver title in Pitsburgh is still Ward's until Holmes can produce consistantly.

  9. He is their future that is why they drafted him. He will be their #1 and break all of Hines' records. Leads the league in Yards per catch since drafted over any WR

  10. Holmes may indeed be the future, and he has the potential to be a very good WR, maybe even great WR.

However, at the moment Ward is the Steelers no.1 when healthy, and Holmes has a long way to go to break Ward's records - 156 career receptions to Ward's 800 receptions, 2,587 career receiving yards to Ward's 9,780 yards, 15 career receiving tds to Ward's 73 career receiving tds. Holmes currently has a much better average per reception, but Ward is probably the premier blocking WR in the game today - he plays a large part if Pitsburgh's running game being so effective.

  11. Agreed Alex without a doubt. Love him to death! I watched this kid grow since he was a rookie. I remember going to training camp and thinking man this kid can hit for a QB. His special teams play was special. He has worked hard to get where he is at.
