Just a cute little FYI, Beckett has yet to put the Prime Cuts video on the main site, and that is funny.
Also, take a look at the comments on the video post on the douchebag blog. They are just amazing what is said by Eric, someone who seems nice, but is really misguided in his ways. Its just scary to think that people out there think the same way.
"Why, we provide information collectors need to enjoy the hobby to the fullest, of course."
To those of you who think that these are average boxes from Prime Cuts and that a Joe Jackson bat relic is nothing to be excited about, fine, you have your thoughts, I have mine. The fact is that Beckett is still getting FREE boxes, two weeks ahead of time, with great, great cards in them. Isnt that enough to raise a ruckus? I mean, yes, there are a lot of good cards in the set, but there are three times as many bad ones. There are thousands of cases of these cards and they end up with what they got? Cmon. Donruss wouldnt be stupid enough to send them a cut, they saw what happened last year. Guys, this is a hand seeded product, Donruss knew exactly what was in those boxes and so did the hobby's number one source on douchebaggery.
Lastly, check out these great response articles on this from Houston Collector, Wax Heaven, White Sox Cards, and Sports. Cards. Life. Try to get a true sense of the way people from Beckett look at this break, and the way collectors like me look at the break.

Obviously, everything they do in TX is bullshit. I'm not argueing that. I don't want to see them open any more boxes either, and the crap that Eric is spewing makes it painfully obvious that he is toeing the company line.
ReplyDeleteHowever, until it is proven otherwise, I will maintain my position that these are average boxes for this product.
How many YouTube vids do you think there are going to be of people pulling Robinson, Gehrig, Mays, Aaron, Rose, Ripken, Thorpe, Ryan, Clemente, et al. DLP's agreement for several players expires on 12/31/08. They loaded this whole product. Look on the DLP site. There are scans of FIVE different cards with Jackson bat pieces in them that are completely different from the one pulled by Beckett. That means that there are at least 6 different Shoeless cards with various numbering.
This is all beside the fact that the bat cards from Threads have been consistently selling for around $300. Don't get me wrong, that is a HUGE pull. The pull of a lifetime? Maybe for a White Sox fan, but not for a guy who bust $1,000's in wax every month or year. I opened about $2,000 in wax this year and pulled a card that sold for $250. What about the guys who open 2-3 cases a week? I don't think the card Beckett pulled is even the "case hit" for Prime Cuts.
Like I said, if I'm proven wrong, I'll gladly eat all the crow that comes my way. But for all our sakes, I hope that I'm proven right because that will mean that Prime Cuts turns out to be friggin amazing. I'm excited for this product, and it's not because of the Beckett vid.
Charlie, Im not saying this product will be crap, I am just saying that it is going to be tough to say that this crap isnt expected with them.
ReplyDeleteYou are right that this product is completely chaulk full of stuff, but that doesnt make me any less suspicious. Regardless of what people may think, Jackson is the big name in this product as he has been with all Donruss this year, and it just so happens that the biggest magazine pulls one of his cards.
Gellman, please believe me. I am in no way trying to start an arguement here. You know enough about me to know that. I just don't think Jackson is the big pull in this set. In Threads yes. But when you've got HUGEMONGOUS Prime Patches of Gehrig, Robinson, Clemente, Mays, Ted Williams, Jim Thorpe, Rose, Ripken, Bench, Sandberg, etc., AND Cut Sigs of: Babe Ruth, Joe DiMaggio, Mickey Mantle, Satchel Paige, Jimmie Foxx, Ty Cobb, Jackie Robinson, Honus Wagner, Dizzy Dean, and Ted Williams, there is no way in hell anybody is going to convince me that the Shoeless Bat cards are THE card of this set.
ReplyDeleteDid Beckett pull a fantastic card? Yes. Did they pull THE card like they have so many times before? I don't honestly think so.
Your above comment makes a little more sense to me in your way of thinking.
ReplyDeletea dual bat out of Legends /25 sold for $600 recently, basically the same card. the single bat piece card's have been going for around $250-$350. just FYI
ReplyDeleteEverytime you show your rotundus face, you lose credibility. You are better heard...and not seen. Congrats on the promotion, I'm sure you'll get that Dunkin' Donuts ROCKIN'!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever run a dunkin donuts? Its fucking hard!
ReplyDeleteGlad you understand my pickle here. Ill be sure to keep you updated over at Denny's.
Denny's is full service while DD is a counter stop. I win.
ReplyDeleteYes, you are a winner at life. Congrats from me to you.
ReplyDeleteWhile Beckett may be a bunch of meatheads, your beef should be mainly with Playoff, Upper Deck or any other manufacturer who propigates this kind of charade. The phony hype these set up breaks create, serve only to mask the fact that maybe 1 in 10 units will yield value anywhere near the price. While Beckett is apparently a willing participant in this fraud it's the MANUFACTURER who is the primary culprit. They are pissing on your head and trying to tell you it's raining.
ReplyDeleteYou are completely correct on that, I wont deny, and I am just as pissed at DLP. The difference is that DLP doesnt read the blogs for that type of info.
ReplyDeleteBesides, UD Football has already supposedly stopped sending boxes to them. Thats a start.
