When Describing My Feelings About Stupid People, Hate Is An Understatement

Gents, let me present to you the newest idiot in the eBay ranks:

The guy who bought this card.

First off, it has to be bad karma to destroy one of the most expensive cards in the set, but it is just plain retarded to buy said destroyed card. I used to think it was shocking that there are 25 people stupid enough to bid on this. After writing this blog for 9 months, I have come to see that there are more stupid people than smart people. Now, that is a sad revelation to come to.

So, lets take a trip down this seller's journey.

First he starts small, with a 50 cent card turned into a 10 dollar card.

Then he starts to move on to bigger fish, by turning a 10 dollar card into a 140 dollar card.

Lastly he takes a huge leap in mangling a 210 dollar card to make a 590 dollar card.

People, how many times do I have to say: THOSE OLD VIKING HEAD PATCHES FROM THE 2005 JERSEYS WERE NOT USED IN ANY 2007 PRODUCT FOR ALL DAY. HE ONLY WORE CURRENT STYLE JERSEYS AT THE RC PREMIERE.

The only Viking head logos used were the tiny ones on the back of the jerseys, and they were only put into National Treasures cards for DLP and SPA and Exquisite Cards for UD. Get it through your thick stupid heads.

  1. We need to hunt these fools down who destroy cards to trick buyers and string them up! And to destroy a beautiful card of All-Day!!

  2. After a while it wont matter, because DLP now has that spot they secretly put on every card. Too bad its about 5 years too late.

  3. I feelbad for this guy. I have no idea who he is, but I don't necessarily think he's an idiot.

I ask myself if I would know that this card was tampered with and I have to admit, probably not.

Now, I think if I was going to spend that much on a card I would do a little research before bidding, but even then I might not know. I guess I'd know just from reading your blog, but I can easily see it hapening to me on a different card or player that you and other bloggers haven't talked about. It's really a shame that this is something you have to consider as a possibility.

  4. Yeah it sucks about "fake" patch cards but lets look at it another way.

    (1) The card companies pawn of jersey's put on for 2 seconds as "event worn jerseys"
    (2) The card companies make thousands of cards out of these jerseys that were slapped on for 2 seconds
    (3) Whoever crafted this card made a card with marginal "personal" connection to AP into a cool looking card. (The Auto is still authentic...all he did is replace a dumb patch with a cool looking one..yes his wasn't worn by AP, but the original one was hardly worn by AP either

I for one wouldn't bid on it, but I think the person who made it at least made a cool looking card. It still sucks because people are suckered into it. However, I wonder if someone were up front about it if they would get premium value anyway. For instance "custom" McFarlanes are high end products that aren't real, perhaps there would still be demand for this card because it does have an authentic auto and just was made into a sweet looking card.

  5. I have to ask the obvious question. Has anyone reported this seller to eBay? There is nothing that gets me more pissed off than ripping people off on an auction site. I noticed the buyers ID was hidden. I also noticed the seller's current feedback rating is 666.

  6. See, normally I would agree that a fake patch is about as real as an event used piece of shit, but really its the principle of it. The guy altered the card not to make it look cool, but to make it more profitable.

  7. Yeah, and that is why I was wondering if people were just straight up honest that they altered it if it would still get some good coin.

I agree that is horrible especially when they mislead to make a buck.

  8. You also must consider the possibility that the seller is unaware that this is a fraud.

I want to reiterate that I'm not excusing either the seller or the buyer here. If you are going to sell/buy a card for $600 you need to do your research.

I just think it sucks. And to think that whoever originally altered the card did it for any reason other than to turn a bigger profit is naive.

  9. Trust me I think they did it to make a bigger profit. My pondering is more about the aesthetics of the card. If someone were just honest about it being altered I wonder if it would go for less then its value or if it would go up?
