One More Shameless Plug For FCB

After having some really nice conversations with Mr. Chris Gilmore from Freedom Card Board, I really think you guys should check it out. He is doing his best to get things done right, and so far he has done a really great job establishing relationships with the people in this hobby. He definitely knows what he is talking about with sports cards, and the board and its members usually reflect that.

It doesnt hurt that the people on the message board no longer have to answer to Beckett moderators, so they get on the Beckett news before I do most of the time.

Check it out, your time will not be wasted, I promise.

  1. I've been reading FCB for a few weeks now, and have read some pretty cool posts, and seen scans from some nice collections, and case breaks. My beef with FCB, which you may not notice as much since you collect football, is that the baseball forum is littered with BGS 9.5 this, and Buster Posey-jo!!!!!! that, and I busted 97 cases of Draft Picks and here's all my Aflac autos, and refractors, and I'm gonna be rich after I get them slabbed by BGS!! There is some really good substance, but it's innundated with a lot of garbage.

On a side note, Razor is a huge sponsor of FCB, and if someone makes a negative comment about the design, etc. of Razor Sig Series, they get blasted from all sides by the newest group of kool-aid drinkers.

  2. I dont usually post on the Baseball boards, I usually just read the news posts. Im sure as a razor safe haven, that would be expected. Chris is a nice guy, this just to help him out.

  3. Chris may be a nice guy -- who knows -- but he was nothing but a troll on the BMB and I'd love to know how much money he is making off of having an entire message board community laid in his lap.

I was a longtime and very active member at Beckett for several years, but had drastically reduced my involvement before the company redesigned the website. The place had already been reduced to a craphole well before the redesign and the main problem was the membership itself.

Unfortunately, the main problems that were on Beckett before its demise are only worse on FCB. If you like being in the company of a bunch of narcissists whose self-worth is determined by how much adulation they can get on a message board, then FCB is for you.

  4. I got to agree with Chad on BMB being a pit way before it was shut down. Most of the members there thought they were better than everyone else if they were around longer. It was a joke.

With FCB it's nothing like that. I have to admit, though...the Razor talk has pretty much driven me away. Maybe when it dies down I will return.

  5. The amount of money I am making is of no concern to you. :-)

And calling me a troll is a bit unfair. Yes, I said mean things to people, hang me.

  6. Why on earth would you want to know anything about the finances of my website? Would you be willing to fax me a copy of your W2?

FCB will be just fine without you :-)

  7. As for Razor and FCB

They pay for ad space on my site. Naturally people are going to start razor topics. I myself only start one when there is actual news to report. I report the same amount of news for other manufacturers as well. I am seen defending razor because there is constant unwarranted attacking of them. I defend topps when necessary as well.

  8. Gilmore, of course FCB won't be affected by the presence (or lack thereof) of any one person. That isn't the point. The point is that by taking money from certain hobby presences, you become the exact same thing that everybody always bitched about on Beckett (with regards to blatant conflicts of interest). And whether you believe it or not, good discussion gets quashed on your site because you are clearly defending your advertisers. You speak of "unwarranted attacking" when in reality anything that is an opinion that runs counter to what Razor is trying to do is an unwarranted attack to you. The fact is that Razor is a revenue stream to you and so you are hardly an objective judge of what speech represents "unwarranted attacks."

You may have your feeble-minded simpletons over there falling in line and bowing at your almighty feet for saving the masses from the despair of what happened to the Beckett message boards. But a lot of us see FCB as what it truly is -- a power grab by a few people who have massive agendas but won't admit it. And that's fine -- but that very fact will be severely limiting for the growth of your website. You have one very small niche of collectors on your site and you'll be very hard-pressed to make it anything but that unless you regain your objectivity.

  9. You should read the full gambit of my posts. I really like razor, but that does not necessarily mean that there is bias. The kangaroo court of the internet declared that I was biased, despite my ties to topps, and donruss, AND razor. Razor is the only manufacturer who felt it was worth the time and money to advertise, shame on me for letting them.

  10. by the way, if you must know

Razor pays $100 a month for 2 banner ads.

  11. Hmm...I'm just a dude who was on Beckett and then moved over to FCB and I really like the board. If I compare it to every other tradeboard, the discussion boards are much busier and more lively than any other. I have no horse in the race but I like FCB...my only wish would be for more board members who are hobby generalists and not just prospect crazy. -- serving4theking on several boards
