If You Havent Used eBay, Please Learn How Before You Sell

There is nothing more annoying on this planet than looking at a Best Offer auction and seeing that the seller has 8 offers older than 1 day and all are "still pending seller response" or "expired."

This says to me you are either not familiar with how to use BO or you are a douchebag that holds my money hostage while you sit on other offers. Im guessing most of the people who take this avenue dont understand they are supposed to deny or counter an offer they get, and not wait out the 48 hours. Im sure many sellers dont know you CAN counteroffer. That sucks because now I cant spend the money I have saved up because the seller hasnt responded.

If you are a fucking douche that doesnt respond to the offers on purpose, I hate you, and I hope you die by getting stabbed repeatedly with a rabid badger.

  1. I agree that people not answering on purpose are jerkoffs

.. but jeez, some tolerance for people with lives who are not on ebay 24/7. Once every other day might be the most some people can spend on there. BO is not a live auction

  2. I didn't know that you could counter offer with the "Buy It Now" option. I actually never use "Buy It Now", but that is good information.

  3. Or even better, how about the dumbass that has BIN OBO for $10 and then has offers of $7 and $8 auto declined. Why bother with the OBO then? Thanks for wasting my time dumb ass!!

  4. You dont have to be on eBay to check your offers, all qualifying offers are sent to your email as well. I am on my email more than most, but I assume that twice a day is not an unreasonable guess for an average for people.

  5. Dude people are allowed to sit on offers. That is the law of the land. If you do not like it retract your best offer. . Go under offer history and hit retract and reason can not contact seller. That simple. I have let offers expire if they are an insult. Some do not deserve a response. Other times I have not been on the computer in 2 days because my daughters after school activites and such(hunting season) Not agreeing with you on this one DP. I am a powerseller and my life does not revolve around ebay. Does that mean you want to stab me?

  6. I do not subscribe to the thought that some offers are insulting. If you are in the business of selling cards, then expect to be treated like a business. If you go to buy a car, don't you always low ball with you first offer? It allows you the wiggle room to see how much the seller is willing to work with you.

Just because an offer is low, doesn't mean they won't give you what you want, it either means they don't want to shoot themselves in the foot, or that's just what value they put on the card. It shouldn't stop you from countering.

Now about holding an offer. I usually go in with a bare minimum number in mind and the first to hit that number will get the card. That being said, there are times when a person is close, and I get the feeling that they will decline if I counter, when I will hold on to it for a day to see if anyone else comes. When that happens, usually after 24 hours, I will take that as an indication that my value of the card doesn't match demand, and subsequently accept.

But all this talk about rigid business practices don't make sense in cards. Values are ALWAYS in the eye of the individual collectors. So if you are brave enough to put the card on the market, then be brave enough to accept the market price.

Just my thoughts. You may now crush me.

  7. Oh, and just because you are "allowed" to do something, doesn't make it right. For example; I am "allowed" to fart in my wife's pillow. But that doesn't mean it's right. Or does it. Oh well, bad example.

  9. wheeler281 > Funny how you can call an offer insulting. In fact most sellers who use best offer would then be insulting the buyers every day as they put outrageous prices on their cards. The standard seems to be a price 2-3 times the SV of the card.

Also you are not supposed to retract a best offer just like you are not supposed to retract a regular bid. Again if you are so sensetive that you find some offers insulting, then have them autorejected.

I agree with most of what Voluntarheel said...

  10. I haven't bought a whole lot of things using best offer, but using it was generally a good experience. The majority of the time, I got a response back pretty quickly. Only once did I have to wait out the 2 days. Of course, the thing that pisses me off about best offer are the people who actually aren't willing to take an offer but put it up there anyway.

They give you the 48hrs to respond so you can field more offers. It is a best offer not 1st come offer auction wins. Best offer wins that means you take more then 1 offer. I am not in the buisness of selling as a buisnees. I normally lose on cards so money is not an issue for me. I will sell extras to buy others. AS far as insulting. I have listed cards that sell for lets say 600. People will put in 50 dollar offers. So please enough about nothing is insulting and fair market. I only let the ones expire that are crazy like that. I should have qualified it for you. Others, like I said sometimes stuff happens like my kids after school activites(field hockey, soccer) and such and just get sidetracked from replying to offers. I like others do not use bay as a buisness or money making operation...Farting in wifes pillow is allowed but does not make it right. No reply needed with that one(if that is what you are into)Really if you do not like a guys response time there is a avenue you can take is my point to retract. Not to cry over or freak out on. You know the the length of time when you make an offer. Not a big secret for Gods sake. Maybe you and DP can start a new site and offer 1st and final offer listings to suit your needs :)

  13. Learn to use the auto reject on offers you would find insulting.

  14. The auto reject is there for that reason. Lets use it.

Please with the learn! How bout knowing policy and procedures in the "best offer auction". I mean 1st offer only auction in your eyes. I would say I have just a little experience on ebay in 11 yrs no negatives avg 4.8 on all 5 stars since the inception and over 2800 transactions. I think I know what I am doing. Obvious you do not.. Why I would rather have those guys and there 50 dollar offers on a 600 dollar card sit and expire.

  16. Well, against my best judgement, I will continue this silly thread.

wheeler, why you feel the need to defend you stance in such a personal manner is beyond me. I really wasn't speaking in a personal way when I posted, rather explaining how I feel about my positions. I didn't say, "you're so wrong". I simply said that I didn't subscribe to your thought.

And to be clear, I never said that I always take the first offer regardless of what the offer is. I said if it is close. If I want 50 for a card, and someone offers 45, and I don't receive any other offers in a day, AND I feel in my gut that a counter would push a guy away, THEN I will probably accept.

These are obviously not hard-fast rules, but rather personal guidlines that I follow regarding the market of cards.

Feel free to follow, or do your own thing, whatever. But please spare me the part about your ebay negatives and stars. That does nothing but invoke eye-rolls all around. Hell, if track record was the basis for ranking, then Obama wouldn't be in the senate, much less about to win the presidency.

Oh, and sarcasm in the farting comment wasn't thick enough, then I apologize. But I figured most would know that I was joking. It still made a good point though.
