Patch Faking Reaches EPIC Proportions

So, I was monitoring the ridiculous Peterson Exquisite that just ended for close to 4000, and I couldnt help but feel that something was fishy. After it ended, I got an email from reader Ben who alerted me to this other auction that had pictures of the before card. Wow. Some people are douchebags.

New Auction

Notice the similarities? Hmm.

It is fucking ridiculous that some giant container of drippy ass runoff would actually ruin this card, but even more ass that he would try to pawn it off on some unsuspecting idiot. Can you imagine how it would feel to be had for close to 4000? I would take a life. I am thuper cereal about that.

What I would do for that guys address and phone number.

  1. If I paid 4 grand for that card (which I never would) and found out the patch was fake, I would find the person and cut out a patch of his skin equivalent to the size of the fake patch. People like this need to be punished!

  2. Am I crazy to think that if I was going to drop 4 months mortgage payment on a football card, that I would contact UD to find out if this is real or not? You are right about the Billy Ripken Bat Knobs that sell this stuff, but if you stupid enough to buy it without question, well, you are right up there.

  3. Im with you, only I would never, ever buy this card. I would buy one that is less gaudy for that reason alone. No one fakes a two color patch.

  5. why would they care? The auction is already done.

Now, the jersey was event used to begin with, so it wasnt real anyways, but still.

  6. that is just crazy stupid; it says right on the card /99. they will probably find another peterson /99 if they bought a bunch of cases. Oh wait, a patch like that makes it 1/1 right? that's why it's worth 4 grand.

  8. Wow, that is nice, but im still weary of something like that. I emailed gregg earlier today and I have yet to see a response. I wonder what he says about the LOA.

  9. I am going out on a limb and calling bs on this. Don't you think we would have seen more viking head patches from both him and sidney rice if they actually used that type of jersey? Anyone can fake a SCAN of a letter. Just copy the data line and the sig and enter your own text.

  10. So I was checking these All Day auctions out and came across this doozy. #140268422039 The guy is claiming hi is real b/c the one mentioned in Gellman's post is fake. And using the same pics above as proof. A-fucking-mazing! $1,800+ and 11 bids now.

  12. What do I know, but I'd say it's real. Ebay or card companies might not care about people faking patches, but that letter I'd say they'd care about. Counterfeiting a LOA is something you could go to jail for I assume (not familiar with US laws)? I'd say he was stupid if he tried to fake that.

  13. For what my opinion is worth, the new one definitely looks real because first off, the patch on the card #47 is raised whereas the one here is not, which means it is embedded "in" the card. Companies build cards around patches, they don't make cards with holes to insert the patch into. The only question I have is that this UD representative claims to have just happened to witness this EXACT card going into a pack. I think it's real though.
